About Us
If you are interested in the world of Experiential Education and Adventure Education, low and high ropes courses, or getting kids of all ages outside to experience our natural world, then a membership in the Connecticut Challenge Course Professionals is for you!
Being a member of the CCCP is an ideal way to be connected to local people and issues in many exciting fields. Our members live and work in Connecticut and surrounding states. We are camp owners, directors and staff. We are teachers and counselors. We are park and recreation staff and ropes course builders. We work in these professions full-time, part-time and sometimes only in the summer. We are lifetime learners and teachers.
If you are not a member yet, click on “How to Join” for information on becoming a member, or click on “Become a Member” to either join online, or the old fashioned way, if you prefer that.
What is Adventure Programming?
Called by a few different names like adventure education, adventure programming, experiential programming, personal challenge, etc. the emphasis for learning is placed in the hands or the learner, who is experiencing the learning rather than simply being taught, or told or shown. Whether it’s….
…. a corporate group solving a “field maze”
…. an individual working their way through a high ropes course
…. a school group problem solving the “Mohawk Walk Initiative”
… a group of young children exploring a field
… or a group of teens working through personal conflicts while debriefing a trust fall
… the learning happens via the experience, simply learning while doing. This approach increases the retention from the 10% retention of the spoken word to more like 75% retention from an interactive experience. Also, the synergy of the program often brings out new ground to be explored. Where a group or individual starts out in one place… the experience may take the group or individual to an unanticipated place. Fun to learn AND fun to teach!
Mission Statement:
It is the mission of the CCCP to provide educational and networking opportunities in the field of adventure programming in the Connecticut region, and to promote and nurture the cooperation of the challenge course practitioners.
